My name is Brenda Hanback. I’m the ripe age of 22, born May 6, 1992. I have been in the beauty industry for three years. I started at Douglas J Aveda Institute but have made Brown & DeLine my home. I started as a salon coordinator seven months into my one-year program at Douglas J. Right after graduating in January 2012, I began assisting. I’m proud to say I started on the floor in March of 2012. Prior to my career, I was a client of Brown & DeLine for a number of years.
Inner beauty was a struggle for me growing up, teased and pointed at for being the girl with the “weird lip.” I was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate, which is a common birth defect. It is openings or splits in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth, or both. Cleft lip and cleft palate result when developing facial structures in an unborn baby don’t close completely. After many surgeries when I was first born, I was left with an unbalanced nose and what I call my lightning bolt above my lip. Throughout my childhood, I had multiple surgeries and minor procedures to sculpt my face into what and who I am today. I had braces for a good chunk of my life and dealt with the short end of the stick when it came to friendships, judgment, and simply learning to stand up for myself. Inner beauty is something I didn’t learn to love and develop until I was in my late teenage years and found “myself.”
My purpose in this world is one of many goals: teaching my clients, friends, and family to find who they are in this big world and to find what they think is beautiful. I have many strong women and men who influence me on a daily basis. They say you never stop learning, and that is one thing in life you can pass on to a neighbor.
Looking back on my childhood, there is nothing I would ever change. There are many memories that I will never forget. Memories of joy and pain. I’m blessed to have my brave family, who helped me through it all and are still watching me grow and learn, becoming the woman I am today. I’m also blessed to have my friends who walked alongside me during our young adulthood journey and to have the many opportunities at Brown & DeLine. My wish is for you to find your inner beauty, change lives, and be you! Stay beautiful, my friends.
